What ADF and DVA tutoring funding covers depends on the relevant scheme and the tutoring approved for your child. Funding should not be assumed to cover every subject, session or educational service a family might choose. Defence and DVA determine eligibility, approval, funding limits and conditions.

Understanding those arrangements helps families choose suitable tutoring and clarify any costs before sessions begin. It also helps separate funding conditions from a tutoring provider’s teaching approach.

ADF EAS Tutoring After a Posting-Related School Change

The ADF Education Assistance Scheme (EAS) may provide tutoring assistance when a posting leads to a school change and additional educational support is required. Families should confirm the approved subjects, available assistance, timeframes and claim conditions directly with Defence.

A student may encounter unfamiliar content, differences in curriculum sequencing or different classroom expectations after moving schools. Tutoring can address the academic needs identified within the approved arrangements. A school move does not, by itself, confirm that tutoring funding has been approved.

DVA Additional Tuition for Veteran Families

DVA’s current Education Scheme, MRCAETS, may provide additional tuition where DVA approves that assistance. VCES eligibility criteria were incorporated into MRCAETS on 1 July 2026. Eligibility for the Education Scheme does not by itself confirm approval for tutoring.

DVA describes additional tuition as short-term assistance when a student’s usual academic performance has been affected by circumstances beyond their control. Examples include illness-related absence, changing schools or losing a family member. A qualified person at the child’s school must confirm the academic need, including the need for assistance beyond what the school can provide.

DVA currently approves additional tuition for a calendar year. Assistance in a later year requires a new claim and review, so families should not assume that funding continues automatically. Refer to DVA’s current Education Scheme guidance for funding limits, approval requirements and payment arrangements.

Our DVA-funded tutoring for veteran families responds to the academic needs identified for tutoring. Students bring different strengths and school experiences, and their needs should not be assumed to arise from relocation or Defence service.

What Approved Tutoring Can Look Like at RM

Rethinking Mindsets provides one-to-one online tutoring in English and mathematics for students in Years 2–9. Experienced, qualified teachers plan sessions around each student’s academic needs and adapt teaching to reflect individual school expectations within the scope of approved tutoring.

Educators explain concepts, model strategies and guide practice. Depending on the student’s needs, this may involve revisiting foundations, interpreting unfamiliar task instructions or applying understanding to current schoolwork. Planning, organisation and self-monitoring strategies may also be taught where relevant to the approved tutoring.

Confidence, independence and student wellbeing remain connected priorities alongside academic growth. A student may need manageable steps and clearer explanations while still engaging with meaningful academic challenge. What Families Should Not Assume Is Covered

Approval for tutoring should not be treated as approval for any subject, number of sessions, holiday arrangement or other service a family might choose. Where proposed tutoring differs from the approved arrangements, families should confirm the position directly with Defence or DVA before relying on funding.

It is also important to distinguish scheme rules from a provider’s educational preferences. RM’s emphasis on explicit teaching, consistent educator relationships and long-term capability describes how we teach. It does not establish what Defence or DVA will fund.

Funding approval does not guarantee academic results, reserve a place with a particular educator or establish that every tutoring cost will be covered. At RM, fees, availability and any costs payable by the family are clarified before tutoring begins.

Before Arranging Funded Sessions

Families arrange tutoring approval directly with Defence or DVA before enquiring about funded sessions with us. We do not determine eligibility, approve funding or guide or manage applications. Please contact the relevant scheme for application assistance and confirmation of funding conditions.

Once tutoring funding is approved, we welcome a conversation about your child’s academic needs, school expectations and suitable session availability. Teaching can adapt as understanding develops, while funded sessions remain within the approved arrangements.

Families may also choose private tutoring when funding is unavailable, approved sessions have finished or their preferred tutoring falls outside the approved scope. Private tutoring is a separate choice, discussed according to the student’s needs, suitability and educator availability.
